Education

“Free the child’s potential, and you will transform him into the world.”

-Maria Montessori

Believing that the lack of incentives is the main problem with early childhood education, “Roots” provides a dynamic model that monetarily incentivizes pre-primary education.

Each strategically located “Root Center” has an “Education Zone” that focuses on pre-primary education for children and a “Creation Zone” that focuses on productive activities for mothers. At the Creation Zone the mothers work on production projects in return of monetary rewards. While the mothers spend time in the Creation Zone, their children engage in playful learning activities at the adjacent Education Zone. The education provided by us is free of cost. As an enterprise Roots sustains itself through revenue generated by branded multi-platform online retail of products produced. By educating parents about best child-care practices and providing them with self-teaching kits, Roots ensures that the children are engaged in learning activities at all times.

Identifying the lack of immediate incentives as the main problem with early childhood education, Roots provides a dynamic model that monetarily incentivizes pre-primary education. Each strategically located ‘Root Center’ will have a Creation Zone that focuses on productive activities for mothers and an Education Zone that focuses on pre-primary education for children. At the Creation Zone the mothers will

work on handicraft production projects in return for monetary rewards. While the mothersspend time in the Creation Zone, their children will engage in playful learning activities at the adjacent Education Zone. The education we provide is free of cost. Roots will sustain itself through revenue generated by branded online retail of products produced. By educating parents about best child-care practices and providing them self-teaching kits, Roots will ensure that the children are engaged in learning activities at all times. Having parents and teachers as partners in a revenue sharing model, Roots will cross check the productivity at the “Root Centers”; and, in order to confirm the efficiency of the educational facility, Roots will monitor the number of primary school enrollments.

Our state of the art, child-centered Education Zone will have professionally trained volunteers to engage children in learning activities. Believing in the theatrical and play way of child education, our facility will offer physical and interactive stimuli to foster intellectual development, creativity, and life skills. Additionally, our subsidiary parent education initiative at the Creation Zone will provide necessary teaching tools and know-how regarding childcare practices to the guardian. Overall, the child’s time spent at our education facility along with targeted parental involvement will surely channel a child’s energy towards more stimulating avenues.

In terms of revenue, the products we expect to produce at the Creation Zone will be standardized native goods. These products will include a range of standardized accessories, local artwork, apparel and handicrafts. A multi platform, branded online retail (in collaboration with Jamun Republic) of these products will create a one-to-one personal user experience and provide social consciousness around our products. This will build value, give us access to global markets, generate advertisement revenues and aid Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) tie-ups. By providing all training and material to the mothers we will keep costs low and give them an opportunity to work from home as well. This in turn will increase the retention of participants at Roots Centers and hence tremendously increase the number of children we educate.

As far as the value proposition is concerned – the Roots Centers will give mothers a high paying occupation where they can be with their children. Provision of nutritious meals will mark as an added incentive.

Overall, our model tackles the problems of transient unemployment, child nutrition and early childhood education, all at the same time. Thus, over time, we will help alleviate a number of problems facing today’s urban slums.

Approximately 4,00,00,0001 children in India below the age of six will not experience a holistic start to their formative years because of the inaccessibility of pre-primary education.

One example of a type of parent Roots can help is Nirmala. Nirmala is the wife of a blacksmith residing on the outskirts of Delhi. Her newborn baby requires constant care, which hinders her daily work. As a parent, Nirmala wants to see her child grow into an educated young individual. Unfortunately, Nirmala cannot provide her child early education, as she does not see any immediate tangible incentives. Moreover, with rising prices, she cannot afford not to work. Thus, Nirmala and countless other slum parents do not have any driving force for early childhood education.

Experiencing the problem through the eyes of Nirmala shows us that the only effective solution to this problem is an incentive based model.

“Roots” is a dynamic model that monetarily incentivizes early childhood education.

The concept behind the Roots is very simple. Each strategically located ‘Root Center’ has a Creation Zone that focuses on productive activities for mothers and an Education Zone that focuses on pre-primary education for children. At the Creation Zone, mothers work on handicraft production projects in return for monetary rewards. While the mothers spend time in the Creation Zone, their children engage in playful learning activities at the adjacent Education Zone. The education we provide is free of cost. As an enterprise Roots sustains itself through revenue generated by branded multi platform online retail of goods produced. By educating parents about best child-care practices and providing them self-teaching kits, Roots ensures that the children are engaged in learning activities at all times. Tying this model to the earlier story, Nirmala can now be alongside her child, earn some money and at the same time give her child the gift of education right from the start.

Our state of the art, child centered, Education Zone will have professionally trained caretakers to engage children in learning activities. Unfortunately, audio-visual stimulus alone is not sufficient for child development. Thus, we will focus on a very human centric approach. Believing in the theatrical and play way of child education, our facility will offer physical and human stimuli for holistic child development. By using tools like play dough, building blocks, tablet computers, video games, theatre and art, the child’s psychology will automatically be steered towards developing necessary life skills. Further, our fun loving environment and age-specific division will foster creativity and brainpower development, while simultaneously encouraging the children to make new friends. These measures will surely channel a child’s energy towards more stimulating avenues.

In an effort to broaden mental engagement, our subsidiary parent education initiative at the Creation Zone will provide parents the necessary know-how regarding childcare practices. In addition, we will provide self-teaching kits containing activities like mazes, puzzles and coloring, which this will ensure that the child is engrossed in educational activities at all times. Overall, the child’s time spent at our education facility along with targeted parental involvement will guarantee that the children are getting high quality holistic education.

Our “Roots Centers” give mothers an occupation where they able to work in close proximity of their children. We give them an opportunity to make money during the time they would otherwise spend at home.Since these job opportunities will be limited to those who get their children to the adjacent Education Zone, the parents will have a clear incentive to adopt pre-primary childhood education. Provisions of free nutritious meals will give mothers the added incentive of bringing their children to the center. In terms of sustainability, by making a strong brand out of our products, we add a new dimension to the market of socially procured products and thus secure the highest output.

Additionally, our Roots model will help us expand and hence educate more number of children each year. Having parents and teachers partner in a revenue sharing model, we will cross check the productivity at our “Roots Centers”. Lastly, in order to confirm the efficiency of the educational facility, we will monitor the number of primary school enrollments from our “Roots Centers”.

In summary, the salient features of our model are incentivization, sustainability and scalability. Our model tackles the problems of transient unemployment, child nutrition and early childhood education, all at the same time. Thus, over time, we will surely deliver the ultimate goal of helping countless individuals break away from the slum poverty cycle.
